1980 A Phenomenal Year for Quincy Jones Pt 2



Michael Jackson’s “Off The Wall” which began its reign at the top of the chart in 1979, week ending the 6th October 1979 for nine non-consecutive weeks.  Both featured singles from the album “Rock with You” and “Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough” each received silver certification for over quarter of a million copies for they release in the UK according to BPI. 


The parent album “Off The Wall” repeated its success at the top by going back to number-one on week ending the 5th January 1980 for an additional seven weeks. The album became a great success in the UK by obtaining multi-platinum certification in the UK according BPI (British Phonographic Industry) for 1.8 million copies sold! The single from the album “Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough” received silver certification for over quarter of a million copies sold on its release in the UK according to BPI.

“Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough” was certified platinum in America for 2.5 million copies sold and topped the number-one position on nine singles charts across the world. This was followed by the single “Rock with You” achieving platinum certification for over one million copies sold in America during the same year according to RIAA (Record Industry Association of America).
The “Off the Wall” album has gone on to sell over twenty million copies worldwide, with over ten million copies sold in America during its life time.
