Did You Know


Isaac Hayes and Al Green are the only two artists of the Memphis soul music era to have achieved gold and platinum albums according to RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) during the 1970s.
Isaac Hayes first studio gold and platinum album was "Hot Buttered Soul", recorded and released in 1969. The album was number one on both the Billboard Jazz and R&B album chart listings.

Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" album was the first studio recording of his career to achieve gold and platinum certifications. Recorded in 1971 and released on the 31st January 1972

Teddy Pendergrass multi-platinum album.


The R&B number one album featured the gold single "Close The Door" which achieved the number one position on 8th July 1978 on the Billboard R&B Single Chart listings for two weeks.
This was Pendergrass second multi-platinum album of his career.

R&B Record Producing Legends
(With a powerful signature sounds)

Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff are the only two song writing and record production teams in contemporary music to have achieved one position on the American Billboard singles chart listings over a three decades period.
Gamble & Huff started their run at the top 1968 with “Cowboys to Girls” performed by The Intruders on the Gamble imprint. The single achieved number one on 11th May 1968 (1 Week) on the American Billboard R&B Singles chart listings, with their final chart success with The O’Jays in 1987 with the song “Lovin’ You” on 7th November 1987(1 week), also on the American Billboard R&B Singles chart listings, surpassing Michael Jackson’s “Bad” singles that actually dominated the chart at the top for three weeks prior starting 17th October 1987.

Jam & Lewis domination of the charts began with the “Encore” performed Cheryl Lynn, pecks at R&B number one on 25th February 1984, which final introduced the Minneapolis Sound according Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Their became the Gamble & Huff of the 1980s and 1990s, helping to create Janet Jackson into a formidable recording and multi media icon from the mid 1980s into the 21st century.

In the process of their career as a song writing production team, their have achieved number ones for a wide range recording artists from various genres such as Pop, Jazz and R&B.

Did You Know

Two Female artists who dominated the American Billboard R&B Singles Chart for the entire month of August 1986 with singles produced and recorded in the city of Philadelphia, at different recording studios were Shirley Jones and Jean Carne.

Both artists shared the number one position for two weeks, beginning with Jean Carne taking a run at summit on 2nd August 1986 with “Closer than Closer” Omni 99531. Which was produced by the late Grover Washington, Jr.? Also Jean was once signed to Philadelphia International Records during the 1970s to the early 1980s.

Shirley Jones achieved the top position on 16th August 1986. Co-Produced by Kenny Gamble and Bunny Sigler. The single “Do You Get enough Love” Philadelphia International Records 50034, was the second single for Philadelphia International Records to have achieved one during the 1980s, with Patti LaBelle’s single been the first in 1984 for “If Only You Knew”, Philadelphia International Records 04248, 28th January 1984 (4 weeks). The single was extracted “I’m In Love Again” album, been the last gold certified album to be distributed CBS Records for label.
